Pregnancy Test

The majority of women have pictured how it would be for them to be pregnant and eventually, give birth and have a child of their own. Some of them fantasize about this moment, while others dread it because it is not the best moment for them to have a child or maybe just because they don't want one at all. However, when you experience some of the first symptoms of pregnancy (like nausea, mood changes or delayed menstrual cycle), taking a pregnancy test can clear all the doubts in your mind.

Most pregnancy tests are done by using urine samples or blood samples. Their mechanism is fairly simple: these tests have a marker that detects the presence of a certain hormone in the woman's body (gonadotropin). This hormone is secreted only when the woman is pregnant.

Home pregnancy test

Most women who need to know whether they are pregnant or not, prefer to buy from the pharmacy, a kit that gives results based on urine samples. These tests are easy to handle and they are the most comfortable type, they are cheap, but the certainty rate of the answer they provide is only around 97%. Some tests are made by immersing a small piece of paper serving as an indicator in a container of urine, while others' mechanism is based on dribbling urine in a precise spot. In either case, it is best to use the first morning urine as a sample. You should also know that a pregnancy test that detects the presence of gonadotropin in urine may give a positive result in about 14 days after ovulation. A positive result usually appears under the form of two colored lines. In order to be sure of the test's accuracy, you should repeat it 2 or 3 times. Make sure to read the instructions and follow them in order to get a correct response.

Blood pregnancy tests

Another type of pregnancy test, less used but which offers a greater accuracy and may provide results in a shorter time after ovulation (6-7 days) is the test that is based on the analysis of blood samples. Generally, this type of test is done in medical offices, the principle of action is similar to that of a urine sample test (detects pregnancy hormone in the blood of the woman in question). By taking a larger sample of blood, you can make a series of laboratory tests, which are the most accurate, but you will only get the result after two or three days.

Pregnancy tests are used by more and more women nowadays, and most of them are satisfied with their effectiveness. Another aspect to be mentioned is the fact that the accuracy of a home pregnancy test is no longer guaranteed if the kit is no longer within the validity term. The same thing can also happen when the test is not kept in conditions of proper temperature and specific humidity.

If the result is positive then do not hesitate and consult your doctor for a thorough check up.
